Root Canal Treatment

The centre of your tooth is called a pulp which is a collection of nerves, blood vessels and connective tissues.  Infection of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks or gum disease. Symptoms of the infection can be identified as visible injury or swelling of the connective tissue surrounding the tooth, sensitivity to temperature or pain in the tooth and gums.

Root canal treatment involves the removal of the pulp, once the damaged, diseased or dead pulp is removed, the remaining space is cleaned, shaped and filled. This procedure seals off the root canal.

Years ago, teeth with diseased or injured pulps were removed. Today, root canal treatment saves many teeth that would otherwise be lost.

At Caneland Dental we use the most modern equipment (motorised mechanical instrumentation, digital x-rays, apex locator and thermal filling system) making the procedure as easy as possible for our patients.
