Oral Surgery

Dr. Wael Assaf is highly experienced in most oral surgeries including wisdom teeth extractions, implants, bone and tissue grafts, sinus lift, apicoectomy, and crown lengthening. If you wish not to have your wisdom teeth removed in the chair, you have the option to get it done under General anaesthetic at the Mater Mackay Hospital, as Dr. Wael is a registered practitioner with the Mater Hospital.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are the best fixed replacement option to having a real tooth.

Dental implants are made from medical grade titanium that is inserted into the jaw-bone to act as the “root” of the new tooth.  The artificial tooth is then attached to the implant by an abutment. General, dental implants have a success rate of up to 98%.  Depending on each case the total procedure can take from three to six months or more, from surgical placement of the implant to fitting of the final restoration.

Wisdom Teeth

In the majority of cases, there will not be enough room in the jaw for a wisdom tooth or all wisdom teeth to fully emerge. This can lead to several complications. If it is determined that the wisdom teeth are likely to cause problems, it is usually recommended to be removed earlier rather than later. We have the option of doing the procedure in chair (under local anaesthetic) or at the hospital (Mater Hospital under General anaesthetic) which is always the patient’s decision.

Bone & Tissue Grafting

In some instances, you may be lacking in bone, gum or both. Once a tooth has been lost, the gum and underlying bone reduces in volume and height. In some of these cases, you may need bone augmentation (grafting) or soft tissue or gum augmentation (grafting).
